Canon updates its Pixma lineup with 4 new photo and office all-in-one printers

Canon updates its printer line-up with four new PIXMA models

Canon has just updated their printer line with three photo all-in-one printers (the PIXMA TS9170, TS8170, TS5170) and one office all-in-one printer (the PIXMA TR8570), and they all share the ability to embed secret messages in photos via Canon’s Message in Print app.

How it works is that you key in a message into the app before printing out a selected photo. That photo will then be embedded with a secret code that can only be decoded using the Message in Print app. You won’t be able to see the message with the naked eye, so only your intended recipient will get it. Definitely an interesting new twist to the simple photo print!

That aside, the new TS9170 and TS8170 printers feature Canon’s Photo Blue ink tank in their 6-tank systems that lowers the graininess of photo prints to better reveal details. Automatic duplex printing is a great time-saving feature that runs across all four models, and the printers have a relatively large capacity of 200 A4 sheets when using both rear and cassette tray together.

Scanning is another shared functionality across all four printers, and they all come with a Document Removal Reminder function that displays a notification on the LCD and sounds an audio alert to remind you if you’ve left the original on the platen. ID Card Copying function also makes it easy for double-sided ID cards to be scanned onto a single printout, while retaining the original card size.

The PIXMA TS9170 measures 372 x 324 x 140mm. It has a 5.0” Full touch-screen LCD display, and does a 4R borderless print in about 17 seconds, and prints A4 at about approximately 15.0ipm (B&W) / 10.0ipm (color). It will be available in Champagne Gold for $329.

The PIXMA TS8170 measures 372 x 324 x 139mm. It has a 4.3” Full touch-screen LCD display, and does a 4R borderless print in about 17 seconds, and prints A4 at about approximately 15.0ipm (B&W) / 10.0ipm (color). It will be available in Black, Red, White for $299.

The PIXMA TS5170 measures 425 x 315 x 147mm. It has a 2.5” Full touch-screen LCD display, and does a 4R borderless print in about 43 seconds, and prints A4 at about approximately 13.0ipm (B&W) / 6.8ipm (color). It’s only available in Black for $189.

The PIXMA TR8570 measures 438 x 351 x 190mm. This has a 4.3” Full touch-screen LCD display, and does a 4R borderless print in about 37 seconds, and prints A4 at about approximately 15.0ipm (B&W) / 10.0ipm (color). It’s only available in Black for $289.

All four printers will be available from 25 September 2017 at all authorized Canon distributers.
