Canon has announced two new printers that are part of its Pixma family. The Pixma Ink Efficient E3470 and TS3470 are targeted at those who are looking for affordable print options. But what is good, is that each device can also scan and copy in addition to printing.

Reaching the right market

Only last month Canon released four Pixma Ink Efficient models that targeted SMBs.

The difference between the G series printers released last month and the new E3470 and TS3470 are that the previous four models are integrated ink tank models whereas the E3470 and TS3470 operate on ink cartridges model. The print quality between each series is similar but the differentiating factor is print volume with the G series printers being better for high-volume printing.

This time around, both the Pixma Ink Efficient E3470 and TS3470 have sub-S$200 prices and high yield ink cartridges to help keep printing costs low. To make navigation easier, both come with an LCD to navigate and adjust print settings, with the help of intuitive icons displaying remaining ink status, Wi-Fi status, and more.

For users with low print volume demands, the Pixma TS3470 is a suitable choice that operates with one black and one tri-colour ink cartridge. Depending on the cartridge used, its black and colour ink cartridges can each print up to 300 pages

The Canon Pixma Ink Efficient E3470 uses a high yield black ink cartridge that can print up to 400 monochrome pages at low cost. This makes it ideal for users who need to print monochrome text-based documents often. Its tri-colour cartridge delivers up to 300 pages, for occasions where colour is still needed.

Both printers support Apple AirPrint, Mopria and Canon Print Service (Android plugin) for direct printing. The Pixma Ink Efficient E3470 and Pixma TS3470 are also compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which enables voice-activated printing. A wide variety of documents can be printed via voice command, ranging from colouring pages and origami, to message cards, and shopping lists.

According to Canon, the E3470 and TS3470 are almost similar except for the ink cartridges system. The E3470 is under the Ink Efficient series which means a slightly higher hardware cost but lower running costs. The TS3470 has cheaper hardware cost but its running costs are slightly higher than the E3470. Canon recommends that consumers with very low print volumes (less than 15 pages per month) can opt for the TS3470 while those with print volumes of 30 pages or more, can go for the E3470.

Pricing and availability

Both the Canon Pixma Ink Efficient E3470 and TS3470 are now available from Canon's online store and authorised dealers at the recommended retail prices of S$169 and S$129 respectively.
