Canon’s light and compact EOS 200D gets upgraded

It’s been two years since the launch of the original EOS 200D, but Canon has just announced the release of a successor – the EOS 200D II. This is powered by Canon’s latest DIGIC 8 imaging processor and has a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor. The ISO range again runs from 100 to 25,600 (expandable to 51,200), but noise levels are said to be kept down to a minimum, with focus now achievable in low light situations down to -4EV thanks to the Dual Pixel AF technology.

The Auto Lighting Optimiser feature makes it easy to capture dramatic scenes with high contrast, while the camera maintain it’s 5.0 fps continuous shooting capabilities so you can more easily capture fast-moving subjects.

White and Silver are the other options for this camera.

If you’re interested in video capture, you’ll be pleased to note that the camera now records in up to 4K/24p with the added benefit of Movie Digital IS for smoother capture. 4K timelapse movies can also be easily created with a dedicated function. Indeed, ease of use is the main aim of this camera, so you’ll find helpful new features like Creative Assist and a smooth skin function that help you get images ready for posting right from the camera itself.

As with before, simply hit the one-touch Wi-Fi button to connect to your smart devices and post pictures up to your preferred social media. You can also change camera settings remotely with the Canon Camera Connect app. The EOS 200D II uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology to stay connected to your smart device, so you can easily view them without even having to pull out the camera.

The EOS 200D II will be available from early May 2019 in a choice of Black, White or Silver at Canon authorized dealers for S$999.
