Canon launches new low-cost photo printers for home users

Canon has launched two new Pixma photo printers based on their refillable ink-tank technology.

Unlike other ink-tank based printers that use a CMYK four-colour system, the G670 and G570 have additional red and grey ink tanks for a total of six colours. The additional colours make photos look richer and more vivid.

According to Canon, a full set of ink that comes with the printer can print up to 3,800 sheets of 4R photos. Additionally, when used with Canon photo papers they can resist fading for up to 200 years under the right storage conditions. Each colour replacement is approximately 60ml.

Users also have free access to Canon PosterArtist Lite and 1,300 templates, photos and clipart so users can create flyers and posters. However, the PosterArtist Lite software is only available for Windows OS.

The free Canon Print Inkjet/Selphy mobile app enables users to print directly from, or scan images to mobile devices, as well as control printer settings and receive device alerts. The Pixma Cloud Link service allows users to connect their printers to social networks and cloud storage for remote printing and scanning.

The G670 and G570 also work with Smart Speakers and are compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon for voice-activated printing.

More than a simple printer, but still not an AIO

We recently wrote about the Epson EcoTank L121 that was only able to print. While the Pixma G570 is also a print-only device, it is at least higher up the value chain as a photo printer.

The Pixma G670 is an AIO that can print, scan and copy, but it lacks an ADF

The Pixma G670 and G570 are now available from Canon authorised dealers for S$499 and S$399 respectively.
