Ever found yourself in the office and needing to scan a document but all the PCs are already off? Well, the Canon imageFORMULA DR-S150 is a standalone, compact desktop document scanner designed to deliver quick and reliable scanning with multiple connectivity options.

Canon says that the easy to operate document scanner can be used in various industries, including financial services, healthcare, legal services and insurance and will fit into existing paper-based processes and workflows easily and efficiently.

In the past, document scanners used to be flat, paper fed devices that in no way be able to match the scanning speed of the new imageFORMULA DR-S150.

Advanced scanning features and technology

The reason behind the PC-less scanning is the DR Processor, the on-board image processing CPU of the imageFORMULA DR-S150 delivers scans of up to 90 images per minute. Even for documents with a dark or patterned background, or those that are crumpled, the DR Processor ensures the resulting scanned images are legible and have the optimal amount of contrast and brightness.

The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology used converts scanned images into searchable data, helping to capture information accurately and improve text legibility.

Users will have access to Canon’s CaptureOnTouch V4 scanning software. With this, users can easily convert scanned documents to searchable files, manage digitised information, and send scanned documents to a range of cloud-enabled services, including Dropbox, Google Drive, and more.

The CaptureOnTouch Job Tool App is available for Windows, iOS as well as Android, and allows users to operate the scanner via smart mobile devices without connecting to a computer.

When we asked Canon the rationale behind a business wanting to buy this rather than an AIO device. they said that:

The imageFORMULA DR-S150 is targeted at businesses of all sizes with workflows that require regular scanning, on top of mobility at work. The versatile connectivity options allow pre-configured jobs to be easily selected, alongside hassle-free, PC-less scanning. In addition, the imageFORMULA DR-S150 is dedicated to scanning and offers features such as single-pass duplex scanning and odd size scanning which most all-in-one printers are not equipped with.

Speed built into the design

The speed comes from the new design. Image courtesy of Canon.

But it is the paper feeding mechanism and separation rollers that enable the high-volume batch scanning of mixed document types of the imageFORMULA DR-S150.

Users can perform scanning tasks in large batches of up to 60 pages, over a wide range of media including ultra-thin papers, plastic ID, embossed cards and even passports up to 4mm thick.

With a large colour LCD touchscreen, the scanner boasts an intuitive interface that provides users with simple scanning operation and ease of use.
