Canon to go on the offensive; targets 50% share of overall ILC market

Rumor site CanonWatch just spotted documents from Canon’s 2018 Corporate Strategy conference, and the notes indicate that the company is doing well overall, thanks to expansion of their business and improvements in efficiency with their production lines.

They’re also moving more strongly into the sectors of Healthcare, Commercial Printing, Network cameras, and Industrial Equipment, all of which leverage their strong manufacturing capabilities. Perhaps most of interest to camera lovers is the note we’ve screen captured below, wherein Chairman and CEO of Canon, Fujio Mitarai states that clearly that “we will go on the offensive and work to expand our sales in the mirrorless camera market”.

Their ultimate goal is apparently 50% of the entire interchangeable-lens camera market, so hopefully that indicates that Canon at least intends to release more mirrorless cameras with professional-level performance capabilities.

Time will tell if Nikon will be the next to follow suit.
