With the new EOS R5 and R6 now in the hands of customers, Canon is turning its attention to the RF lenses in the EOS R system.

And the latest to join the 16-strong group are the RF70-200mm f/4L IS USM and RF50mm f/1.8 STM.

Comprising of 16 lens elements in 11 groups, the RF70-200mm f/4L IS USM offers up to 5 stops of shake correction, or up to 7.5 stops when paired with an EOS R camera with in-body IS. Like Canon’s L-series lenses, it has a dust- and weather-resistant build.

This 695g lens is also Canon’s shortest and lightest 70-200mm f/4 zoom lens to date. While it has a customisable control ring for quick exposure compensation, shutter speed, aperture or ISO adjustments, DPReview notes that it doesn’t support a teleconverter or have a tripod mount collar.

The sixth STM lens in the RF ecosystem, the 160g RF50mm f/1.8 STM is made up of six lens elements in five groups, touts up to 7 stops of shake reduction when paired with an EOS R camera with in-body IS, and sports the same control ring on the barrel like the other RF lenses that you can customise to control shutter speed, aperture, ISO and exposure compensation.

Availability

Both the RF70-200mm f/4L IS USM and RF50mm f/1.8 STM lenses will be available in Singapore this Dec. Canon Singapore has yet to reveal their prices, but in the U.S., they’re going for US$1,599 and US$200 respectively.
