Featuring the New DIGIC 5 Image Processor

Coupled with Canon’s High Sensitivity (HS) system, DIGIC 5 maintains the cameras’ signature low-light image quality while improving overall camera operation and color accuracy to provide clearer, smoother-looking images.

Dynamic Duo - HS System with DIGIC 5

Canon has helped consumers improve the quality of images under low-light conditions with the launch of the HS System, in which the camera’s image processor and high-sensitivity image sensor work in tandem to enhance low-light image quality. With the introduction of the DIGIC 5 image processor, both PowerShot cameras boast improved overall camera operation and colour accuracy, while maintaining superb low-light quality. Designed to achieve new, advanced levels of image quality with vast improvement over colour accuracy and digital image noise, DIGIC 5 analyses four times more image information to create each pixel, recording more detail and colour from a scene than before. Processing speed is also six times faster compared to the previous processor, efficiently managing the increase in scene information and simultaneously reducing the presence of image noise by up to 75%. An added benefit of the DIGIC 5 image processor is the incorporation of the new High- speed Burst HQ2 mode, providing users with the ability to continuously capture a maximum of 8 frames at full resolution in high speed. Also supported by DIGIC 5, both cameras are equipped with the newly incorporated Multi-area White Balance function which makes images look more natural by detecting scenes with two different light sources and applying area-specific white balance correction.

In addition to the enhanced HS system and DIGIC 5, the PowerShot S100 also exclusively features Canon’s proprietary high-sensitivity 12.1 Megapixel 1/1.7-type CMOS image sensor to provide an even more powerful foundation for low light photography.

Intelligent IS - Achieving Sharper Images

Canon’s Intelligent IS uses Canon’s highly effective 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer to counter camera shake in both stills and Full HD movies. Selecting from seven modes of stabilization, Intelligent IS automatically identifies the scene and adapts the optical Image Stabilizer settings for optimal compensation. Panning IS is ideal for following racetrack action, ensuring the IS system only corrects the axis perpendicular to the direction of movement. Hybrid IS technology is activated when shooting close-ups for macro photography. Powered IS uses Canon’s camcorder technology to stabilize distant subjects when using the zoom, while Tripod mode switches off IS when the camera is on a stable surface or attached to a tripod.

Full HD movies – Shoot and Share with Ease

With a dedicated Movie Record button and the ability to zoom while recording, both cameras are equipped to capture Full HD video (1080p) at 24fps with stereo sound, providing exceptional resolution for crystal clear HD video. The S100 is also capable of capturing high speed action with the Super Slow Motion Movie mode, which also records videos at 240fps (QVGA quality) or 120fps (VGA quality).

For the PowerShot SX40 HS, the dedicated movie button allows photographers to switch to videography in an instant, from high quality stills to Full HD (1080p) video at 24fps with stereo sound for fantastic home movies. The Voice Coil Motor (VCM, for high speed zoom) and Ultra Sonic Motor (USM, for high speed autofocus, adapted from Canon’s EF range of lenses), enable the PowerShot SX40 HS’ large telephoto lens to zoom quickly and focus silently, allowing photographers to make use of the full focal range whilst filming.

Support for the Apple iFrame Movie format has been added to the PowerShot SX40 HS. Video clips from the camera can be imported and edited in Apple’s iMovie programme without the fuss of format conversion, simplifying and accelerating the post-production process. Both PowerShot models come with an HDMI terminal output for easy sharing of videos with stereo sound on HD ready televisions.

PowerShot S100 – Genuine Canon Lens with Enhanced Control

The PowerShot S100 features a new, high performance lens developed and manufactured using the same methods and expertise as Canon’s leading range of EF lenses. Its coverage spans from an ultra-wide angle of 24mm, for shooting horizons and landscapes, and an extended 5x optical zoom bringing distant scenes and subjects closer to you – all while offering a bright maximum aperture of f/2.0, in a light and compact design.

Designed with the professional in mind as well, the PowerShot S100 offers full manual control for users who prefer to customize their own settings. It is the smallest camera to support RAW format shooting and offers compatibility with Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software. The popular Lens Control Ring also provides a tactile way to control settings such as exposure, focus, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and aperture in 1/3 stop increments.

Also new in the PowerShot S100 is the integrated GPS unit that records location into a picture’s EXIF data. The GPS Logger facility records a user’s journey, allowing users to review their travels by using the supplied Map Utility software that integrates with Google Maps.

PowerShot SX40 HS – Manual Control and Creative Support

With a versatile 35x (24 – 840mm) zoom, the PowerShot SX40 HS is incredibly adaptable, capturing subjects both near and far with amazing precision. For more advanced users, the PowerShot SX40 HS offers the flexibility of manual exposure control. Smart Auto has also been enhanced, detecting up to 32 different scenes and automatically adjusting the camera settings to capture the best possible image. Tracking AF allows the photographer to select an object and track as it moves around the frame, ensuring that the off-centre compositions are perfectly in focus at the moment the photo is taken. The PowerShot SX40 HS also features a range of creative filters including Fish-eye effect, Poster Effect and Miniature Effect which also extends to Movie mode for photo enthusiasts to introduce his/her own creativity to each shot.

Expand your possibilities

The PowerShot S100 is compatible with a range of Canon accessories. The new HF-DC2, an external flash unit, can be used to supplement the on-board flash. Diving enthusiasts can complement the PowerShot S100 with an optional Waterproof Case, WP-DC43, which provides water resistance to depths of 40 metres.

The PowerShot SX40 HS can be used with Canon Speedlite EX flash units, a lens filter adapter and other complementary accessories.

The PowerShot SX40 HS is available now at authorized Canon dealers at the recommended retail price of S$749. The PowerShot S100 will be available in early November. Pricing will be announced.

World’s slimmest 12x and 8x optical zoom compact cameras come in bold colors, offer detailed images with HD movie recording

Canon Singapore today adds more models to its stylish IXUS family; the IXUS 1100 HS, and the colorful IXUS 230 HS. Striking and super-slim, both models offer Canon’s advanced high-sensitivity sensor (HS) system for beautiful, low-noise images in all conditions. They also feature a new Intelligent IS system to ensure any subject is captured in crisp detail, whether up-close, in low light, or at the fullest extent of the zoom.

Fashion-forward and super-slim

The IXUS 1100 HS with a 12x optical zoom is the slimmest camera in its range at just 21.9mm thick. Likewise, the IXUS 230 HS is also the slimmest 8x optical zoom camera in its class with a thickness of 22.1mm. The IXUS 230 HS also packs a powerful 8x optical zoom lens into an elegantly styled body, available in six vibrant colors.

Intelligent IS - Achieving Sharper Images

A new technology for the IXUS range, both models feature Canon’s uniquely powerful Intelligent IS system, which uses Canon’s highly effective 3.5-stop optical Image Stabilizer to counter camera shake when shooting stills and Full HD movies.

Providing seven types of stabilization, Intelligent IS automatically identifies the shooting conditions and adapts the optical Image Stabilizer to prevent camera shake most effectively. Hybrid IS corrects exaggerated angular shake which occurs during close-up macro photography, while Powered IS works during movie shooting to counteract the exaggerated motion which occurs when shooting distant subjects using high zoom. In combination with Smart Auto, which distinguishes scenes to improve subject detection, Intelligent IS works automatically so users can capture images that are rich in detail with minimal blur.

HS System – Outstanding Picture Quality in Low Light

Both the new IXUS models allow one to capture the ideal shot for any moment, be it a distant subject or a party group shot. With a 28mm 12x zoom lens featuring Canon’s precision optics and a 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer, the IXUS 1100 HS provides outstanding image quality and detail at all focal lengths, from wide-angle to super telephoto. The stylish IXUS 230 HS also comes with a precision 28mm 8x optical zoom lens.

Both models are fitted with Canon’s HS System – a combination of a 12.1 Megapixel high sensitivity CMOS sensor and proprietary DIGIC 4 image processing, which will help to capture the natural ambience of a scene, producing crisp, low-noise images without having to use a flash or a tripod.

Also, capture split-second action with the IXUS 1100 HS using a High-speed Burst mode, which is able to record 3.0MP resolution images at 7.8 shots/sec or shoot continuously at full resolution up to 3.3shots/sec. The IXUS 230 HS is also able to capture up to 8.7 shots/sec. at 3.0MP resolution, while full resolution 12.1MP images can be continuously captured at 3.5 shots/sec, right up to card capacity.

Touch Shutter - The world at your fingertips

The IXUS 1100 HS allows one to frame and review one’s stills and movies with crisp detail and fantastic contrast and color with its vast 8.0 cm (3.2”) PureColor II Touch LCD screen with a sharp 460k-dot resolution that fills the rear of the camera. With everything at one’s fingertips, the different settings can be easily controlled with a swipe of a finger; touch to focus on the subject with Touch AF (Auto Focus) or instantly capture the scene with new Touch Shutter.

New and Improved Movie Digest – Shoot and Share with Ease

With Full HD (1080p) resolution, optical zoom and high-quality stereo sound, one can easily switch between still images and movies with one sleek camera that fits neatly in your pocket.

With Movie Digest mode, one can create a VGA-quality film telling the story behind the images shot that day. It automatically records the four seconds preceding every still image captured and merges the clips into one show reel, which can then be used as bonus footage or shared online. These new models can also capture 24 frames per second (fps) in Full HD Movie Recording with stereo sound. A dedicated Movie Record Button makes it easy to record instantly, ensuring no moment is ever missed.

The 12x/8x (IXUS 1100 HS/IXUS 230 HS) optical zoom can be used during video capture, and Intelligent IS includes Dynamic IS mode to counteract camera shake when recording whilst moving. An HDMI-CEC port makes it easy to share videos, allowing users to play images back on HDMI-compatible HD TVs and control playback using the TV remote.

Both cameras also come with an Enhanced Smart Auto mode for recording those special moments, as they use Advanced Subject Detection (non-living subjects can also be tracked) to detect up to 32 different scenes and adjust the camera settings accordingly to ensure every subject is well-exposed and in-focus.

For more fun with videos, both cameras offer Super Slow Motion Movie mode which slows down fast-moving subjects, shooting VGA resolution video at 120fps (QVGA resolution at 240fps) and playing it back at a fraction of the real speed which creates a perfect video for analyzing a golf swing or catching the dramatic conclusion to a 100m sprint.

Powerful external flash - HF-DC2

The IXUS 1100 HS and IXUS 230 HS will also be compatible with the HF-DC2 – a new external flash unit that can be used to supplement the camera’s on-board flash.
