Camera maker Light is no longer involved in the smartphone industry

Camera maker Light's dream to bring new innovations in multi-camera imaging space for smartphones has come to an end.

In a statement to Android Authority, Light confirmed that it is "no longer operating in the smartphone industry". As it is no longer involved in the smartphone industry, consumers will not be able to see any phones equipped with Light technology in the future.

Light came into the limelight five years ago when it unveiled the L16, a digital camera with 16 camera sensors and lenses. The camera maker reportedly had plans to enter the smartphone space with a phone model that had up to 9 cameras.

In February last year, Light announced a partnership with Sony to develop "multi-image sensor solutions" including new apps and solutions for phones with at least four cameras. It also worked with HMD on the Nokia 9 PureView which had a 5-sensor rear camera system.
