Bungie goes mobile with new Destiny: Rising game

Having celebrated a decade of Destiny just last month, developer Bungie is entering the mobile gaming market with Destiny: Rising. The free-to-play mobile sci-fi RPG shooter, developed in partnership with Chinese-based company, NetEase Games, is slated for release on both Android and iOS platforms. 

Unlike Destiny 2, Destiny: Rising offers players a whole new experience as it is set in an alternate timeline of the Destiny universe. The game explores the post-Dark Age era, a period before the establishment of the iconic Tower and the emergence of Guardians. The narrative particularly focuses on humanity’s struggle to recover from “The Collapse”, which led to the loss of civilisation. Check out the announcement trailer down below.

Destiny: Rising will also introduce a new roster of playable hero characters, including Ikora Rey. As seen in the trailer, each character has unique abilities and storylines for players to invest in. Interestingly, the mobile game will a first-person as well as a new third-person viewpoint.

Gameplay-wise, the developers "promised a rich array of content", including campaign missions, six-player co-op strikes, and both PvE and PvP modes. Players will fight against familiar enemy factions such as the Fallen, Vex, and Hive, while exploring new locations like Jiangshi and the Red Sea Rift. There’s also the introduction of a new "Mythic" weapon rarity class that adds another layer of grinding to the game.

When Can I play?

No official release date has been announced just yet, but Bungie has announced a closed alpha test for the US and Canada on 1 November. If you're interested in the game, check out their official website here.
