Bungie's Destiny 2 reveals 'Season of the Witch' details and big changes ahead
Destiny 2's much-anticipated Season of the Witch has just been unveiled, and it comes with a plethora of updates and tweaks. For players keen on following the series’ story arc, Savathun, the prominent antagonist from the 2021 The Witch Queen expansion, makes a return. Guardians are tasked to resurrect her with assistance from her Ghost, Immaru, which paves the way for the next significant expansion, The Final Shape, set to launch on February 27, 2024.
What's New This Season?
New Story Arc & Activities: Destiny 2 continues its tradition of introducing fresh missions each season. "Season of the Witch" will offer players new story missions designed to prepare them for the upcoming "The Final Shape". Alongside the narrative, players can expect to earn unique rewards and gear.
Gameplay Innovations: In a significant shift from its typical seasonal framework, Bungie has introduced a card-collecting feature. This allows players to modify their approach to the seasonal activities, providing a fresh twist to the gameplay.
Crota’s End Raid Returns: The nostalgic “Crota’s End” raid, originally a part of the first Destiny game, is making its comeback to Destiny 2. Set to be available from September 1, Game Director Joe Blackburn has hinted at a particularly challenging experience for players, aptly setting the stage for "The Final Shape’s" raid.
Weapon and Gameplay Adjustments
Hand Cannons Revamped: After feedback from the Destiny 2 community over the years, Bungie has buffed hand cannons. These weapons will now inflict more damage on common red bar enemies and even greater damage on higher-tier foes, making them more formidable in PvE content.
Exotic Pre-order Bonus: Players who pre-order "The Final Shape’s" Annual Pass will be treated to a new Exotic weapon, Tessellation. This fusion rifle, an Energy slot weapon, adjusts its elemental type based on the player's subclass – a novel mechanic allowing for versatile gameplay strategies.
Exotic Mission Rotator: A notable addition is the Exotic mission rotator. This feature revives some of Destiny 2’s most cherished missions, enabling players to unlock crafting patterns for specific Exotics and Legendary weapons. Currently, the rotation includes missions such as Presage, Vox Obscura, and Operation: Seraph Station. However, more missions are promised for 2024, potentially bringing back favourites like Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfect.
With these updates, Bungie seems committed to keeping Destiny 2 fresh and engaging for its player base. As we approach "The Final Shape" release, it will be intriguing to see how these changes resonate with the community.
