Brother’s new inkjet printers are well-equipped for the digital age
In a world where everything (and everyone) seems to be going digital, it’s easy to underestimate the value of having a good printer in your office. After all, storing your documents online is certainly much easier than carrying stacks of paper around. With most meetings taking place online nowadays, even physical presentation slides seem all but unnecessary for the most part.
Yet, as convenient as digital storage might be, there’s nothing that says you can’t have the best of both worlds, and that’s exactly what Brother has in mind with its newest duo of affordable A4 colour inkjets that can tackle anything you might need with the DCP-J1050DW and MFC-J1010DW.
What can these new printers do for you?
Designed for the occasional print runs, both of the printers in Brother’s latest A4 Inkjet Multi-function Centre Series are relatively compact, measuring only 400 x 343 x 151mm in size – over 20% more compact in volume than its Ink Tank brethren. This allows them to easily fit onto your workspace, either at home or in your office. Aesthetically, these are printers you’d be happy to display too, thanks to a minimalist design that complements both corporate and casual interiors with an air of graceful professionalism.
Despite their compact size, you’ll still find that these printers pack enough power to handle any task thrown at them with remarkable speed and efficiency. Whether you’re preparing for a big pitch or helping the young ones print out a school project, Brother knows that only the best-quality documents will do. As such, the new printers are not only capable of producing vivid colour prints at resolutions of up to 1,200 x 6,000 dpi, but they also feature blazing-fast printing speeds of up to 17ipm (images per minute) for black-and-white and 9.5ipm for colour.
Print what you need, when you need
Now, connectivity wasn’t always a necessity for printers - most of us used to hook them up with a desktop and just left them there, but that’s all in the past. To complement our increasingly multi-faceted lifestyle, Brother’s new printers feature both mobile and wireless connectivity, allowing you to work from home or your office with the same seamless efficiency.
Specifically, we have the new Brother Mobile Connect application to thank for that. It lets you access the printer to execute tasks like printing, scanning and managing documents from miles away - all you need is a smartphone or tablet and you’re good to go. So, if you need some documents ready and printed by the time you get home, rest easy knowing that you could make that happen at the push of a button. Similarly, if you’ve been browsing Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration and you found suitable ideas for your next project, you could instantly send them to print and use them for referencing your own artwork interpretation.
But that’s not all. Apart from mobile connectivity, Brother Web Connect allows you to print or scan documents directly to and from the cloud, doing away with the need for USB devices to lug your data around. On top of that, you won’t even have to worry about accidental data loss. After all, if the document has already been uploaded to the cloud, you can literally fetch and print the data anytime you want without any fear of missing data.
Even a child could set one of these up
But while power, speed and accessibility are certainly valuable for a printer, Brother’s new duo has also been designed with flawless efficiency and simplicity in mind. Their 1.8-inch colour LCD control panel allows you to easily set these printers up and manage tasks thanks to an intelligent user interface, so that even your young ones should be able to do some printing with minimal guidance. Previously, such a display was only reserved for printers double its cost and is great to know Brother has put usability first above all else in this new inkjet offering.
Now, if you’re worried about paper wastage (and consequently, money) from inefficient use of paper, fret not. An automatic 2-sided printing feature not only suits more environmentally-friendly lifestyles, but lets you save paper by printing on both sides – thereby cutting the amount used.
In fast-paced situations, the MFC-J1010DW and its 20-sheet automatic document feeder truly shines. This feature allows the printer to quickly handle multi-page copies of documents in case you forgot to print the right number of copies during your initial print run without having to load up the document on your device. It also comes in handy to handle heavy-duty printing on thicker paper types, making it the ideal choice if you’re printing flyers or advertising material. To top it all off, you won’t even need to reload the main paper tray of these printers that often - they both come with a reasonably sized 150-sheet paper tray, so you can focus on getting the important stuff done.
Working with the digital office, not against it
Brother clearly doesn’t intend to go head-to-head against digitalisation but aims to complement it instead. While both of its new A4 colour inkjets offer excellent printing performance in and of themselves, they are also able to incorporate the versatility and accessibility afforded by digital applications and cloud storage services – all within a compact and reasonably priced package.
