Braid, Anniversary Edition confirmed for all major consoles and Netflix mobile
Thekla, the developer behind the renowned puzzle platformer Braid, has set a definitive release date for its much-anticipated revamp, Braid, Anniversary Edition. Initially announced in 2020 with expectations of a 2021 launch, the game faced delays, finally securing a release date of April 30, 2024.
The Anniversary Edition is poised to enhance the original game while maintaining its fundamental appeal. A notable feature is the introduction of reworked graphics, described as "hand-repainted", offering players the flexibility to toggle between the original and updated visuals. Additionally, the game will also improve the audio experience for fans, featuring enriched sound quality alongside fresh mixes and variations of its soundtrack.
An intriguing aspect of this edition is the inclusion of extensive developer commentary, spanning over 15 hours. This commentary features insights from key figures, including Jonathan Blow, the game's designer, and Frank Cifaldi of the Video Game History Foundation. This addition seems to parallel the concept of interactive documentaries, providing players with an in-depth look into the game's creation and evolution.
Braid, Anniversary Edition is scheduled for release across multiple platforms including PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will also be available as part of Netflix’s mobile games subscription service on the slated release date. Versions for Mac and Linux are planned for release at a subsequent date.
