BOE plans to supply OLED panels for the Apple iPad and MacBook

The Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2021) has a mini-LED display.

BOE is aiming to join the ranks of Samsung Display and LG Display to supply OLED panels for Apple devices.

TheElec reports that BOE is building a Gen 8.6 IT OLED panel production line in Sichuan Province. The production line is expected to have a monthly capacity of 15,000 substrates with operations starting at the end of 2024.  These OLED panels are believed to be for the Apple iPads and MacBooks.

While Samsung Display and LG Display are using Gen 6 production lines, BOE's Gen 8 glass substrate is stated to be more cost-efficient. BOE's Gen 8 substrate can deliver twice that of Gen 6 sustrates for 13.3-inch panels.

TheElec claimed in November 2021 that Apple's first OLED MacBook could launch later than 2025 while OLED iPads could launch in late 2023 or 2024. LG Display is expanding its plants to produce OLED panels in hopes of becoming a supplier for the iPhone and iPad.
