Space RPG Starfield now has an official launch date again, following a delay that saw it miss its November 11, 2022 release date. Starfield is now pegged for a September 6 release, which marks yet another delay – the game was supposed to arrive in the first half of 2023.

The announcement came in a brief video featuring Bethesda game director and executive producer Todd Howard. "We have poured ourselves into this game, and even I'm surprised at how much we can pour. It is large," he said.

To make up for the delay, Howard promised a deep dive into the game on June 11 at Starfield Direct. "The game has many of the hallmarks that you'd expect from us, but it's also a very unique experience," he teased.

In the background of the announcement video, Bethesda manages to sneak in some gameplay footage as well. Players can be seen exploring in both third-person and first-person mode, and they also show off a few weapons.

Starfield is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda, the studio that also created The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4.

Set amongst the stars, the game will allow players to create any character they want, promising "unparalleled freedom" on an epic journey to answer humanity's greatest mystery.
