BenQ’s new DLP projector goes small even as it projects big images at home

BenQ is calling its new GS2 projector an all-in-one entertainment device for families. It is looking to bring big-screen entertainment into more rooms in the house than just the living room.

Being engineered for family-friendly use, the GS2 is IPX2 splash-proof and drop-proof to 50cm to hopefully child-proof it from the multiple “accidental” knocks it will be receiving. Weighing 1.6kg, it is decidedly not a pocket projector but is portable with a carry bag.

Connectivity options are what you would expect to find with there being HDMI, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth, and USB. It also has an in-built speaker so you can even hook it up to gaming consoles like the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

The GS2 is Android-based and is embedded with Aptoide TV app market. You can download tools or media apps for more streaming services, such as YouTube, Netflix, etc, or install APKs on the GS2.

If you need to go wireless, the inbuilt battery lasts up to three hours, letting you enjoy full movies, TV shows, sporting events, and more.

Since it is designed for use indoors and the small size of the projector at 139cm x 144cm x 139cm, the GS2 has a relatively short throw. At distances of 115cm, you can project images of up to 40-inches in size. Double the length to 230cm and you’ll also double the size of the images to 80-inches.

The LED display has a brightness of 500 lumens and an adjustable hinged-stand to project at a comfortable eye-level height. The GS2 has an HD-ready native resolution of 1,280 x 720 and can support resolution up to Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) while broadcasting it in HD. Given that limitation, 4K would be way too much to ask for.

From June 15, 2020, to August 31 2020, with every purchase of GS2 or selected gaming projectors, TK800M/TH585/TH671ST, BenQ customers stand a chance to win a Nintendo Switch console by sharing a photo of a gaming session using the projector on their Facebook or Instagram, as well as a 100-word product review on the Lazada product page. Jeffrey Liang, President of BenQ Asia Pacific Corporation said:

We believe that BenQ’s GS2 portable projector enhances the stay-at-home experience for Singaporeans and offers families a fun yet safe way to enjoy each other’s company, be entertained, and even educated.

BenQ's last projector freed us from the need of using a PC to control and collaborate. But Xiaomi has also jumped on the portable projector bandwagon with a new product released earlier in the year.

The BenQ GS2 projector is available now exclusively on the BenQ Lazada Store and it's priced at S$849.
