The beginning of the end? Apple Music free trial stopped in three countries.

One of the best parts of Apple Music was the fairly lengthy three month free trial period, but it seems like that’s coming to an end. 9 to 5 Mac notes that the Apple Music pages for Australia, Spain and Switzerland are now charging 0.99 cents in their respective currencies for a three month trial.

Apple hasn’t made any sort of official comment yet, but it’s worth noting that Spotify also charges a small fee for three months service in these companies rather than offering a free trial, so perhaps it’s just a move to establish parity.

Apple’s free trial was initially a point of contention with artists as it was revealed that Apple would not be paying royalties during the three-month free trial period. This was of course reversed after backlash from multiple artists like Taylor Swift. Perhaps the 0.99 cent charge is an attempt to recoup some of the costs of the trials?

For now though, it remains unclear if Apple will be doing away with the free three month service completely in favor of a 0.99 cent charge, but we’ll certainly update you if we hear anything further.
