Background blur comes to Skype video calls

It’s been a while since Skype added a feature that I like, but today is one of those days: Microsoft has announced that it’s adding automatic background blur for Skype video calls. This feature is available on most desktops and laptops with the latest version of Skype.

Similar to the background blur feature in Microsoft Teams, this is activated via a toggle, right-click, or from your Skype settings. While the idea is to only have you as the focal point, Microsoft warns that it can’t guarantee that your background will always be blurred.

Microsoft:

Background blur in Skype and Teams uses artificial intelligence (AI)—trained in human form detection—to keep you in focus during your call. This technology is also trained to detect your hair, hands, and arms, making a call with background blur just as relaxed and easy as a regular video call.
