**Updated on 30 Dec 2017, 11:00am: The Massdrop x Focal Elex headphones have received a price cut and are now US$699.99 (S$936).**

Massdrop and Focal are teaming up to give Massdrop's very active audiophile community a very special headphone.

What you are looking at is the Massdrop x Focal Elex headphones (pronounced LX).

The Elex headphones combines elements from Focal's other headphones, specifically the Elear and the newly released Clear.

It retains the Elear's 40mm drivers with aluminum/magnesium ’M’-shaped domes but adds the Clear's specially developed perforated microfiber ear pads.

According to Massdrop, this brings the bass down to a more neutral level and gives the Elex headphones a more neutral sound.

In fact, Massdrop says that the goal of the Elex headphones is to give its audiophile community a "super HD 650" - in reference to Sennheiser's legendary HD 650 headphones.

With an impedance of 80 ohms and a sensitivity of 104 db/mW, the Elex headphones should be quite easy to drive.

As for accessories, the Elex headphones will come with a stylish storage box with magnetic flaps and two 1.8 cables, one that terminates in a 6.35mm plug and another that terminates in a 4-pin XLR.

The Massdrop x Focal Elex headphones will be available on Massdrop for US$799.99 (~S$1,080), which makes them the most affordable Focal headphones you can buy. The Elear, Focal's entry-level model, is US$999.

Most importantly, the Massdrop x Focal Elex headphones will be available for order later tonight (18 December) at 10pm. Only 1,000 units will be made. I expect demand for this to be as strong as the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones and the Elex will sell out quickly, so best get your mouse and wallets ready and may the odds ever be in your favor.
