Audio-Technica goes after Sony and Bose with its flagship ATH-TWX9 flagship TWS earbuds

There's a new player in the high-end flagship true wireless earbuds space and it comes from Audio-Technica. This is the new ATH-TWX9 and it features active noise cancellation, 360 Reality Audio, and more.
Like many other flagship TWS earbuds, the ATH-TWX9 features hybrid ANC that uses mics to monitor noise outside and inside your ears. It comes with five preset noise-cancelling modes allowing users to customise their listening experience and the amount of sound that is coming through.
Unlike other brands which use larger drivers, Audio-Technica has opted for modestly-sized 5.8mm "high-resolution" drivers for the ATH-TWX9. The smaller drivers are said to be more agile and have a greater frequency response of 10Hz to 40,000Hz.
The ATH-TWX9 uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound platform and supports Bluetooth 5.2 and multi-point connection. And for fans of spatial sound, the ATH-TWX9 also supports Sony's 360 Reality Audio.
Supported codecs include SBC, AAC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive. There's no support for LDAC.
The buds have a prominent stem for touch controls and stand out for their attractive use of black and copper accents. They are also IPX4 water-resistant.
However, the star has to be the charging case which is hands down the coolest I've seen of any TWS earbuds. The case is fairly large and angled and has striking LED indicators in front to show the battery level.
Speaking of battery, Audio-Technica says the ATH-TWX9 can last up to 6 hours on a single charge and the charging case can provide another two full charges for a total listening time of around 18.5 hours. The case can be charged via USB-C and wirelessly using a Qi wireless charger.
Pricing and availability
The Audio-Technica ATH-TWX9 is available for pre-order now until 12 February 2023 at a special promo price of S$348.
It will go on sale on 13 February 2023 and will be priced at S$398.
