Audio-Technica's ATH-CKD3C headphones connect via USB-C, perfect for devices with no headphone jack

It may surprise some readers but not everyone is keen on using wireless headphones. As convenient as they may be, they compromise on audio quality. 

Fundamentally, they compress audio data before transmitting them over the air. What this means is that they can never fully support lossless audio. And for some listeners, lossless audio is important. Nevermind whether you can actually hear the difference or not – that's a debate for another day.

For listeners who care about audio fidelity but might be using a device without headphone jacks, Audio-Technica has the solution.

This is the ATH-CKD3C, which are relatively affordable USB-C headphones. They cost S$48 and they connect directly to a device's USB-C port. Digital audio is then converted by the headphone's integrated 32-bit DAC which is capable of supporting high-res music up to 32-bit/48kHz.

The ATH-CKD3C feature an in-ear design for better noise isolation and comes with 9.8mm dynamic drivers that have a claimed frequency response of 5Hz to 24,000Hz. The cable features in-line controls for controlling music playback and volume, and also has an integrated mic for taking calls.

The ATH-CKD3C works with Android smartphones and tablets, as well as Macs and PCs with USB-C ports. A version designed specially for iOS devices will be available in February 2022.
