Compact form factors are all the rage these days, and we’ve been seeing a slew of tiny gaming machines and slim 15.6-inch notebooks hit the market. That said, the ASUS VivoMini VC66 is no gaming desktop, but it is a high-performance mini PC that will do very well for everything else.

It measures just 177.4 x 153 x 74.1mm, and its diminutive footprint means it will fit in just about anywhere and will do well even on a space-challenged office desk.

Here’s a quick overview of its specifications:

  • Intel Core i7-7700 (3.6GHz, 8MB L3 cache)
  • Up to 32GB DDR4 2,400MHz RAM
  • Up to 512GB M.2 SSD + 1TB HDD
  • Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

As it turns out, there are actually two different variants of the PC. The VivoMini VC66R is based on the Intel H170 chipset and supports RAID. In addition, it is capable of powering up to three displays simultaneously. This makes the VC66R more suited for small businesses or as a mini media server, as RAID can vastly improve data access speeds and performance or provide data redundancy.

On the other hand, the VivoMini VC66 is a better fit for more casual users. It is based on the Intel H110 chipset and lacks RAID support. It also has the option for a dedicated optical drive, but opting to go without the ODD will free up an extra SATA 6Gbps for support for up to triple-storage configurations as on the VC66R.

Both models have four front-mounted USB ports, comprising one USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-A port, two USB 2.0 ports, and one USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-C connector. In addition, there are two further USB 3.1 (Gen 1) ports, an Intel Gigabit LAN port, a 4-in-1 card reader, and a Kensington Lock slot at the rear.

The mini PC can drive 4K monitors as well, and you’ll find a wide range of display output connectors including HDMI, DisplayPort and DVI-D ports.

The VivoMini VC66R and VC66 will be available to buy at the upcoming PC Show and CEE 2017. Pricing will be announced closer to the date.
