ASUS’ VivoBook S14 and S15 laptops now come with the latest Intel 8th-generation processors
ASUS has updated its VivoBook S14 and S15 laptops with the latest 8th-generation Intel processors. First announced at Computex 2017, they’re both fairly powerful machines designed to serve up performance at an affordable price.
The VivoBook S14 (S410) boasts a slim NanoEdge display with thin bezels, which has enabled ASUS to fit a 14-inch screen into a chassis closer to the size of a 13.3-inch laptop. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor integrated with the touchpad so you can log in using Windows Hello.
Here’s an overview of its specifications:
- 14-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel display
- Intel Core i7-8550U processor (1.8GHz, 8MB L3 cache)
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 1TB HDD
- 326 x 226 x 18.8mm
- 1.43kg
Note that this is a different configuration from the VivoBook S14 (S406) that ASUS announced back in October. That model costs S$1,598, and was slightly lighter and slimmer, and also came with a 512GB SSD.
On the other hand, the VivoBook S14 (S410) is cheaper at S$1,498 and also comes with a discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX150 2GB graphics card and a slightly larger 42Wh battery. As a result, it’s targeted at those who want slightly more graphics processing power than the iGPU on the S14 (S406) offers.
The larger VivoBook S15 (S510) is very similar, save for its bigger 15.6-inch display that gives you additional screen real estate to work with.
It’s available with the following specifications:
- 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel display
- Intel Core i7-8550U processor (1.8GHz, 8MB L3 cache)
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 128GB M.2 SSD + 1TB HDD
- 361 x 243 x 17.9mm
- 1.7kg
The above will cost you S$1,598, but there’s also a cheaper configuration with an Intel Core i5-8250U processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 cache) and single 256GB M.2 SSD that retails at S$1,398.
All the VivoBook S14 and S15 models announced here come with two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-A and Type-C ports, and a single HDMI output.
You can buy them now at SITEX 2017, where they’ll come pre-installed with a copy of Microsoft Office 365 Personal.
