ASUS' VivoBook Pro 15 goes after gamers with a GeForce GTX 1650 and 120Hz screen
ASUS is rolling out a brand new VivoBook laptop at SITEX 2019. The VivoBook Pro 15 is still positioning itself as a value-for-money option like the VivoBook S15, but it's also going after those who want to do some light gaming on the side. ASUS has put a discrete GPU in the VivoBook S15 before, but that was a less powerful NVIDIA GeForce MX250. The VivoBook Pro 15 comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and a 120Hz refresh rate display, so it's got a lot more going for it.
The high refresh rate screen is particularly surprising, especially considering how much the laptop costs, but it's good to see that ASUS recognises what a 120Hz screen can do for your gaming experience, even on a relatively affordable notebook like this one. While the GeForce GTX 1650 definitely won't be able to push 120FPS in AAA games, it can probably manage that on less demanding esports titles with the settings turned down, so you can enjoy reasonably smooth gameplay.
Here's an overview of the rest of its specifications:
- 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel 120Hz display
- Intel Core i7-9750H processor (2.60GHz, 12MB L3 cache)
- 16GB dual-channel DDR4-2400 RAM
- 512GB PCIe SSD
- 42Wh battery
- 359 x 248 x 21.9mm
- 2.14kg
This is also the heaviest of all the VivoBooks, and even the model with the GeForce MX250 weighs just 1.8kg. In addition, it is slightly thicker too, probably to accommodate a more robust cooling system for the GeForce GTX 1650. ASUS calls this its HyperCool DuoCopper system, and it comprises dual fans and heat pipes. On top of that, the main heat-generating components are located away from the palm rests, which ASUS says helps keep the surface cooler.
There's a wide range of connectors here as well, including two USB 2.0, one USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-A, one USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type-C, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, one HDMI 1.4 output, and a microSD card reader.
The VivoBook Pro 15 (F571) is available to buy now at SITEX at S$1,698. While not yet available online, interested readers can still keep an eye out at Asus's official stores on Lazada and Shopee.
