ASUS’ new RT-BE88U router is a more affordable way to get your home ready for Wi-Fi 7

ASUS now has a more affordable Wi-Fi 7 router available in Singapore.

It’s called the RT-BE88U and if it looks familiar it’s because it’s clearly modelled after the old RT-AX88U that we reviewed back in 2019.

This is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router that’s capable of delivering a total data transfer rate of 7,200Mbps. The 2.4GHz network supports up to 1,376Mbps, whereas the 5GHz network can deliver up to 5,764Mbps.

To enable users to maximise its wireless performance, the RT-BE88U router has a 10G SPF+ port, a single 10G WAN/LAN port, a 2.5G WAN/LAN port, and three 2.5G LAN ports, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports. It also has a USB 3.0 Type-A port that can be used with a portable 4G/5G router as a backup. This selection of ports makes the RT-BE88U suitable for users who have subscribed to 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps fibre plans.

Gamers will be happy to know that you can designate a dedicated gaming port on the RT-BE88U so that devices connected to that port are prioritised over all others. With Adaptive QoS, users can prioritise gaming packets all over packets of data too.

Earlier this year, ASUS released the ROG Rapture GT-BE98 router in Singapore. That’s a high-end quad-band Wi-Fi 7 router capable of a maximum bandwidth of 25,000Mbps. Though the new RT-AX88U’s specifications are less impressive, it is also considerably more affordable at S$629 – a little over half the GT-BE98’s staggering S$1,099 price tag.
