ASUS has just released another wacky-looking router. Meet the new RT-AX89X.

Yes, the 8 external antennae (yes 8, count them) are somewhat distracting, and it doesn't help that the router has an unusual octagon profile. But this is a router with some very serious specs.

It's a 12-stream dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router that's powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core processor and capable of delivering data at up to 1,148Mbps and 4,804Mbps over its 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks respectively.

Connectivity is impressive. It has a single Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and no less than 8 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. It also has two USB 3.1 Gen 1 USB-A ports.

On top of that, it also has two 10G ports, one Base-T and another SFP+, which means it supports both fibre and copper 10G connections.

These ports can be used for WAN or LAN connections, so if your ISP supports it, you can get very fast Internet. On the other hand, you can also connect to a compatible NAS for fast file transfers.

Like any modern ASUS router, the RT-AX89X supports app management and ASUS' AiMesh technology so you can create mesh networks if you have another compatible ASUS router.

Availability and pricing

The ASUS RT-AX89X router is priced at S$719 and it's available now on ASUS Flagship Store on Lazada. Challenger ValueClub members should head over to where ValueClub members can get it for S$699.
