Got space on your desk for this monitor?

If you're a stickler for so-called immersive gaming experiences, the new ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ may be the monitor for you. This is a massive 49-inch curved display, so you'll have pixels peeking at you from even the furthest reaches of your peripheral vision.

ASUS has made few compromises with the ROG Strix XG49VQ, and you still get things like a speedy 144Hz refresh rate and support for Radeon FreeSync 2 for a butter-smooth gaming experience.

It sports a 3,840 x 1,080-pixel resolution and an ultra-wide 32:9 aspect ratio, so you'll definitely want to pair it with something like NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti to take full advantage of the display and its 144Hz refresh rate.

However, that means you won't be able to utilize AMD's FreeSync 2 technology, but variable refresh rate technologies matter less at high refresh rates anyway.

In addition, the monitor comes with VESA's DisplayHDR 400 certification and 125 per cent coverage of the sRGB color space, which means improved contrast and colors.

Finally, ASUS baked in something it calls Shadow Boost, which helps brighten and enhance detail in dark areas (without overexposing bright areas). It's difficult to say more without trying out the feature for myself, but it sounds like it could be pretty useful in theory.
