The ASUS ROG Strix Flare mechanical keyboard has plenty of flair

ASUS ROG Strix Flare

ASUS has announced the ROG Strix Flare, a full-sized mechanical keyboard that is as feature-rich as they come.

For starters, the keyboard is available with four different Cherry MX RGB switch types, including red, blue, brown, or black. The MX RGB switches also provide more even lighting than the conventional Cherry MX switches that have a single LED located outside the switching housing, largely because light emanates from the entire switch housing.

The keyboard baseplate has also been colored white, so it diffuses light more effectively and helps the lighting effects stand out more. Furthermore, there are nine extra LEDs along the edges for some extra glow.

All of these can be controlled individually, and the keyboard supports per-key Aura Sync lighting customizations. Alternatively, there is a selection of 13 different lighting presets, including new raindrop and current patterns. Of course, you’ll also be able to sync the lights with other Aura Sync-enabled products, such as ASUS’ own motherboards and graphics cards.

One distinctive feature is the customizable illuminated “badge” that fits into a niche at the top right. The keyboard comes pre-installed with an ROG logo badge, but they can also etch their own design on the provided blank insert.

ASUS says the badge can be customized using paint or printed stickers, or even professional printing or laser etching techniques.

There’s also a set of media controls located at the top left-hand side of the keyboard, in addition to an aluminum volume wheel. This means that you don’t need to take your hand off the mouse to make adjustments, which is pretty convenient if you’re a right-hander.

The keyboard ships with a detachable wrist rest, and also comes with a USB 2.0 passthrough for you to easily hook up your devices.

The ROG Strix Flare will retail at S$299. However, it will be available at the upcoming IT Show at a discounted price of S$259.
