ASUS ROG has rolled out its new Claymore II keyboard and Gladius III mouse series
Earlier today, ASUS Republic of Gamers released two new additions to their arsenal of gaming equipment. Namely, this includes the Claymore II Gaming Keyboard as well as the Gladius III Gaming Mouse, both of which were previously showcased at CES 2021. Both products will arrive in stores early next week on 24 May.
For those who are in the market for a more compact keyboard that can still keep up with high-intensity gaming, the 80% tenkeyless Claymore II, which costs S$429 might be worth checking out. Not only does it feature a detachable numberpad that users can attach as and when they feel like doing so, but it can also be attached to either side of the keyboard, making it easy to accommodate for both left and right-handed users. To ensure a more robust and firm attachment, the Claymore II also features a new slot-in design for the aforementioned numberpad. This is certainly a notable improvement over the first Claymore keyboard (though the new version is now over $100 more expensive too).
As for the switches, the keyboard sports ROG RX Red and Blue Optical Mechanical Switches with near-zero debounce delay, and the combination of hollow square stems and Xstabiliser mechanisms make them particularly great for genres that emphasise split-second inputs, such as first-person shooters and rhythm games. Apart from that, the keyboard also features an impressive 100 million keypress lifespan and supports both wired and wireless configurations, offering a swift 1ms response time in either mode.
Topping it all off are a number of quality of life inclusions, such as a volume control wheel, customisable keys and a detachable wrist rest for added comfort and utility.
Moving on to the Gladius III mice, which cost S$139 and S$189 for wired and wireless variants respectively, these high-performance gaming devices were primarily made with flexibility in mind. Their main selling points include a sensitivity range of 100-26,000dpi, a class-leading 1% deviation, a special zero-gap pivoted button design and of course, their PushFit Switch Socket II design, the last of which allows users to hot-swap the switches depending on the situation.
In this regard, users have the option to mix and match between traditional 3-pin mechanical switches and 5-pin Omron optical micro-switches. As for the zero-gap pivoted button design, this was included to minimise the usual latency that emerges as a result of debouncing and button actuation. By keeping the gap between the button and switches, the Gladius III mice are able to promise instantaneous actuation, and the specially-tuned firmware helps to prevent any accidental button presses as a result of the increased "sensitivity", in that sense.
As for the other hardware aspects, the Gladius III also features an optical sensor with a gaming-standard 1000Hz polling rate, RGB-illuminated engravings on the side and 100% PTFE round-edged mouse feet to ensure lasting smoothness and swiftness.
