Originally unveiled at CES 2024, ASUS has announced that the ROG Carnyx, a cardioid condenser gaming microphone, will be available in Singapore.

Designed for streaming, gaming and content creation, the Carnyx has a 25mm condenser capsule, that is more sensitive than the more common dynamic microphones.

To take advantage of the extra sensitivity of the condenser design, the Carynx also has the ability to record 24-bit/192kHz resolution audio. Compared to competitor microphones such as the Seiren V2 Pro or the Yeti X, the higher sampling rate of the ROG Carnyx should mean a more accurate and faithful reproduction of the original sound.

The Carnyx has a suite of features to ensure clean and uninterrupted recordings. A high-pass filter eliminates low-frequency background noises, and the built-in pop filter minimises plosives caused by harsh consonants like p's and b's.

The microphone also comes with a metal shock mount that isolates the mic from vibrations caused by desk bumps or when you are typing on your keyboard. It also has a built-in mount adapter that's compatible with standard 3/8-inch threaded microphone stands or boom arms.

On the Carnyx is a 3.5mm headphone jack for live monitoring, which is a convenient function if you want to know what your audience might be hearing through the microphone. It is also a nice feature to have if you are recording music or vocals.

The Carnyx connects through a USB-C port located at the back of the microphone. There is also a one-touch mute button for users to instantly mute themselves and a multi-functional control knob that allows users to adjust the microphone and multimedia volume or toggle the included high-pass filter on or off.

Finally, as with ROG and its gaming products, the Carnyx has built-in ASUS Aura Sync RGB lighting that can synchronise lighting effects with other Aura Sync-enabled peripherals. There are six different preset lighting effects. Through the Armoury Crate software, users can adjust EQ settings, activate the high-pass filter, customise the RGB lighting, and more.

Pricing and availability

The black variant of the ROG Carnyx is available for sale now and retails for S$299 on their official storefronts on Shopee and Lazada, and the ASUS online store. The white variant is set to be available sometime in early May.
