Do you want RGB LEDs on all your gear? ASUS wants to help you out with that. The company has revealed a new 2.5-inch FX external hard drive with RGB lighting, further proof of our descent into RGB madness.

The FX drive measures 128 x 80 x 16.3mm and weighs just 145g. ASUS has paid attention to the chassis design, and it has an angled surface with a brushed metal finish, rubber feet, and ASUS’ signature Mayan styling.

ASUS says the use of 5-axis engraving and double injection molding technology helps create a more refined and durable surface that resists fingerprints and provides better grip.

The Aura Sync RGB LEDs light up the Mayan patterning on the drive, and you can customize its effects or synchronize it with other Aura Sync-compatible devices.

The hard drive uses the USB 3.1 (Gen 1) interface for speeds up to 5Gbps. It relies on ASMedia’s ASM1153E1 controller, which features its own 8-bit microprocessor and embedded program RAM and ROM.

In addition, ASUS is shipping the drive with backup software that lets you backup data on your PC, social media, and cloud storage. It supports 256-bit AES encryption as well so you can protect your files with a password.

The drive will work with Windows 7, 8, and 10 and Mac OS X 10.8 or later. ASUS will be offering it in 1TB and 2TB capacities, but there’s no information on price or availability yet.
