In April earlier this year, ASUS announced its first-ever TUF Gaming notebook, the TUF Gaming FX504. That notebook was meant to be the first in a line of affordable gaming notebooks - something for gamers who wanted the performance and features of a top-notch gaming notebook but couldn’t quite stretch their budget to get one of ASUS’ premium ROG gaming notebooks.

Now, ASUS is bolstering its TUF Gaming series with two new notebooks. Meet the new TUF Gaming FX505 and FX705.

The two notebooks share many of the same features and specifications and differ only in their screen sizes. The TUF Gaming FX505 comes with a 15.6-inch Full-HD display whereas the TUF Gaming FX705 comes with a larger 17.3-inch Full-HD display. Some of the key specifications that the two notebooks share include (subject to actual retail SKUs in respective countries):-

  • 8th generation hexa-core Core i7-8750H processor
  • Up to 32GB DDR4 2,666MHz RAM
  • Up to 512GB PCIe SSD
  • Up to 1TB FireCuda SSHD
  • Up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060

The two notebooks were also designed to be tough - hence the name TUF Gaming. Both notebooks meet the demanding MIL-STD-810G military standard, which means they are more shock and dust resistant that most typical notebooks.

Speaking of reliability, the HyperStrike keys on the two notebooks have been rated for 20 million key presses. To further ensure long-term reliability, the two notebooks are also equipped with HyperCool systems, which features a trapezoid-cut lid that allows more hot air to be ejected through, thus improving overall cooling performance by up to 25% according to ASUS.

Online gamers will be pleased to know that both notebooks will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. But if you prefer more mobility, the notebooks also feature Gigabit-class Wi-Fi and offers up to 1.7Gbps wireless speeds thanks to support for the faster 802.11ac Wave 2 standard.

Finally, the TUF Gaming FX505 and FX705 notebooks are also relatively slim and light for gaming notebooks. The TUF Gaming FX505 comes in at 26.7mm thick and weighs 2.2kg, while the TUF Gaming FX705 is 27.6mm thick and 2.6kg heavy.

The two notebooks will go on sale later this year. Detailed product specifications and pricing have yet to be confirmed and will be unveiled closer to launch. That said, the TUF Gaming FX504 had a launch price that started at S$1,598, so it is safe to assume that prices of these new notebooks will be thereabouts.

From 12th December 2018, the ASUS TUF Gaming FX505 will be available in retail at the ASUS Brand Shop in Bugis and all other authorized retailers. With a product code FX505GE-BQ074T and retailing for S$1, 898, it will have the following specifications:-

  • 8GB DDR4 2,666MHz RAM
  • 256GB PCIe SSD
