ASUS announces first 42-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor with 0.1ms response time
ASUS has come to CES with two very large ROG Swift gaming monitors aimed at those looking for a visual extravaganza right on their desk. The 48-inch ROG Swift OLED PG48UQ and 42-inch ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ both feature 3,840 x 2,160-pixel resolutions, 120Hz refresh rates, and blistering 0.1ms GTG response times.
The OLED panel means you get deep, inky blacks and detailed highlights, on top of true 10-bit colour and 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space. ASUS says it has also tuned the screens to achieve a delta E value of less than 2 right out of the box for more accurate colours.
There's even support for variable refresh rate (VRR) tech, and an auto low latency mode (ALLM) for faster-paced games. For display ports, both monitors come with two HDMI 2.1 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 connector, and a USB hub. They use fixed-rate link tech to access the full 48Gbps of bandwidth for HDMI 2.1, allowing you to game at 4K and 120Hz on the latest gaming consoles without chroma subsampling.
And while the typical glossy surfaces of OLED displays may not be the best when used as a desktop monitor, especially such a large one, ASUS tries to get around that with a micro-texture coating that helps reduce glare.
To mitigate the heat output of OLED displays, ASUS installed a large custom heatsink and ensured that there was a proper airflow route in the interior to maximise heat exchange and keep operating temperatures below 50°C. This is how ASUS is able to offer a peak brightness of 900 nits, without having to cap the brightness like on some TVs.
Unfortunately, there's no word yet about when these monitors will be available on shelves or how much they will cost.
