Unless something drastic happens, electric cars are the future of the automobile.

Numerous cities around the world have already announced bans on gasoline and diesel-powered cars in the future.

The UK, France, and Germany have all said that they will ban the sales of cars with internal combustion engines by 2040.

To ensure that owners of its vintage cars can continue to drive their beloved cars, Aston Martin is embarking on a program that will "electrify" its old cars.

The program is called "Heritage EV" and the first car that they will offer this service to is the DB6 Vantage Volante from 1970.

Paul Spires, President Aston Martin Works said:

We have been looking for some time to find a way of protecting our customers’ long-term enjoyment of their cars. Driving a classic Aston Martin on pure EV power is a unique experience and one that will no doubt be extremely attractive to many owners, especially those who live in city centres.

Considering the historical significance of these cars, the conversion will use the original engine and gearbox mountings and every attempt will be made to preserve the cars' integrity.

Perhaps most importantly, this process will be reversible so owners can choose to reinstall the car's original engines.

The ingenuity of this program is beyond question but one has to ask if it is really still a vintage Aston Martin if it no longer has its original engine? After all, it is often said that the engine is the soul of the car.
