Aqara's smart video doorbell supports Apple HomeKit and facial recognition

The Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4.

Aqara, a smart home accessory maker, just unveiled its first video doorbell.

The Aqara smart video doorbell G4 comes with built-in AI-based facial recognition that helps you identify faces of family members and regular visitors in the Aqara Home app to minimise false alerts/notifications. In addition, it can help you configure automatic replies or trigger other smart home automations even when there is no Internet connection.

The G4 doorbell supports Apple's HomeKit Secure Video, which allows you to watch the videos and get notifications across all your Apple devices. You can also store up video footage from the G4 in iCloud. Alternatively, you can rely on Aqara's free cloud storage of up to 7 days or store the footage on a local microSD card.

Aqara says the G4 also supports local streaming to Google Nest and Echo smart displays, and will receive Matter support via an OTA update. There is also a plan to launch NAS storage for the G4.

The Aqara G4 can be powered by a 6-battery pack for up to 4 months, or wired to an AC/DC transformer and use the batteries as a backup in the event of a power outage.

Other specs include a 1080p camera with a162-degree wide-angle field of view, two-way audio communication, an indoor chime-repeater with a loud 95dB speaker and USB-C port, customised ringtones, and the option to set masking area (up to 3 designated areas) for the privacy protection of neighbours.

It is now available for purchase on Aqara's official store on Lazada and Shopee at a retail price of S$209.
