Apple's Shazam hits 300 million monthly active users worldwide

Apple's Shazam, the music identification app, has reached a milestone of 300 million monthly active users globally, according to a press release by the company.

Shazam's journey began 20 years ago and in recent years the app’s user base has expanded, especially in African countries. African music genres are increasingly prevalent on Shazam's charts, with artists such as Rema and Ayra Starr from Nigeria gaining significant recognition. Rema's Calm Down notably topped the 2023 Shazam global chart.

The app has also seen a surge in popularity for K-Pop outside South Korea, a genre that continues to make its mark on the global stage. In 2023, K-Pop band Fifty Fifty achieved a notable position on the Shazam global charts, a first for a group outside BTS. Additionally, Musica Mexicana has also gained traction in the app, especially in the US market.

Shazam's enduring presence on the App Store has been marked by continuous innovation. The app recently introduced a feature called Concerts, designed to connect music enthusiasts with live events. This feature offers personalised concert recommendations based on a user's Shazam history and allows for searches based on location, date, and artist preferences.
