Apple's premium news subscription service could launch within a year
Apple is said to be launching its own premium magazine and news subscription service within the next 12 months.
Sources told Bloomberg that Apple plans to integrate the recently acquired magazine app Texture into Apple News and charge a premium service. Apple will then share the revenue with content partners.
Apple currently offers subscriptions through the Apple News app on a publication-per-publication basis. The upcoming premium subscription will provide customers a la carte access to a library of magazines and newspapers.
The latest move to launch its own news subscription service is part of a wider strategy by Apple to earn more revenue from its online content and services. In its recent earnings report, Apple revealed it saw revenue growth of 18% in the services segment to US$8.5 billion.
