So it seems Apple may not name its next generation smartphone as the iPhone 6.

According to our close sources, the next generation iPhone models will adopt the "Air" and "Pro" monikers from its MacBook laptops. At press time, it is unclear which moniker refers to the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones. However, we could fathom a guess that the 4.7-inch model will be called the iPhone Air and the 5.5-inch model will be referred as the iPhone Pro.

Traditionally, Apple has named its iPhone models as 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S and 5C. The break in tradition comes as no surprise. When Apple unveiled its third generation iPad, it was officially known as the New iPad although many people find it easier to refer it as the iPad 3.

For the launch announcement next week, Apple is expected to unveil two bigger iPhones on September 9 alongside the highly anticipated iWatch and a mobile payment system - if rumors were to be believed. As for the availability of the upcoming phones, it's believed to be set for 19th September. We'll find out in less than five days if all of these updates turn out to be true!
