Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple will update its Mac lineup later this year with new M4 chips. Apple announced its new M3 chips last year in October, and there's a good chance it will do the same when it unveils the M4 chips later this year.

Gurman believes Apple will usher in the M4 by updating the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros, the iMac, and Mac mini. The 13 and 15-inch MacBook Air will come later in early 2025.

Given the buzz surrounding AI, it's no surprise that the M4 will be heavily focused on improving AI performance and how that will integrate with the next yet-to-be-named version of macOS.

The M4 chips will still be built on a 3nm process and will likely feature improved Neural Engines to boost AI performance. Gurman also thinks the M4 chips could support as much as 512GB of memory – that's a huge jump from the current limit of 192GB.

Although Gurman thinks the M4 chips are on their way, he also says Apple could still release another M3 chip for the Mac Studio. The Mac Studio has yet to be updated and Gurman thinks Apple still has one ultra-high-end M3 chip up its sleeves.
