Apple Watch Series 7 runs on the same chipset as the Apple Watch Series 6

Apple Watch Series 7 runs on the same chipset as the Apple Watch Series 6

Apple did not mention anything about the chipset on the Apple Watch Series 7 during the event and it could be for a reason.

Based on the latest version of Xcode, developer Steve Troughton-Smith believes the Apple Watch Series 7 is powered by the same chipset as the Apple Watch Series 6. Both smartwatches are stated to have the "t8301" CPU, which is the codename for the S6 chipset.

As a quick recap, the S6 chipset is based on the A13 Bionic and is up to 20% faster than the S5 chipset. It also supports the faster 5GHz Wi-Fi and more power efficient.

The lack of a new chipset and a firm availability date led to speculation that Apple ran into some serious issues with the new smartwatch. Weeks before the event, there were reports of the Apple Watch Series 7 adopting a new boxy, flat-edged design. However, Apple is said to have ran into production issues for the smartwatch earlier this month. Could these production issues forced Apple to make a last-minute decision to improvise on the design?
