Apple could unveil the new iPad Pro and iPad Air in second week of May

Apple is expected to launch new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in the second week of May.

Apple's new iPad Pro and iPad Air models are likely to launch in the second week of May according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says the new iPad models are likely to launch in the week of 6 May. Moreover, Apple retail stores are expected to get new product marketing materials in the same week, which is a hint of an upcoming product launch.

Gurman reiterates the May launch is one of the biggest updates to the iPad lineup in years with the switch to OLED panels and updated design. As a result of the significant updates, Gurman claims the new iPad Pro models will come with higher price points.

Rumours of a price hike for the iPad Pro surfaced early this year with one report stating price hikes of 60% to 80% while another report estimated the price increase to be more modest and up to US$160.

Besides the new OLED iPad Pro models, Apple is said to be introducing a bigger 12.9-inch iPad Air alongside the standard 10.9-inch model.

Gurman added that Apple will release a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. In his September report, Gurman shared that the new Magic Keyboard will make the iPad Pro look even more like a notebook and come with a bigger trackpad.

As for the entry-level iPad and iPad mini, they are slated to launch before the end of the year. Gurman believes the "new" entry-level iPad will be a "cost-reduced version" of the 10th-generation iPad. The iPad mini should have no major updates other than a new chipset.
