Apple is intensifying its focus on the burgeoning genre of monster entertainment. Its streaming platform, Apple TV+, has renewed the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for a second season (you can read our Season 1 review here). But there’s more: Apple has also announced that the renewal includes a multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment to develop a series of spin-offs.

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world,” says Morgan Wandell, Apple TV+'s head of international development. “We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise, as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

There has been a lot of Godzilla content in recent months, including Takashi Yamazaki’s excellent Godzilla Minus One and more recently Adam Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It’s clear everyone wants more Godzilla.

The production team for the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters includes returning showrunners Chris Black and Matt Fraction, as well as producers from Safehouse Pictures.

The first season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is now streaming on Apple TV+, available at $13.98/month.
