The earthquakes in Kumamoto last month reportedly have caused Sony to behind schedule in delivering its full share of dual cameras for Apple. As a result, the iPhone maker has turned to LG Innotek to supply a majority share of the initial dual camera orders. Aside from damages to the production facilities, Sony is said to be struggling with lower-than-expected yield.
Nomura Securities also believes that optical image stabilization (OIS) will be coming to the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 model. Currently, OIS is only featured in the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus and 6 Plus. Earlier this year, Kenichiro Yoshida, Sony's Chief Financial Officer, stated that major smartphone makers will launch devices with dual cameras by next year although the slowing down of the high-end market segment may affect the demand and production schedule.
