Apple and Singapore have partnered to introduce a new health initiative called LumiHealth.

Lumihealth is part of the nation's Smart Nation initiative to use technology to enhance the quality of life for citizens.

Developed in conjunction with the Health Promotion Board, participants will receive personalised programs through the LumiHealth app and their Apple Watch that encourage healthy activities and behaviours.

In the app, participants take control of "a friendly galactic explorer" and are tasked to help it get back home. This can be achieved by completing fitness goals such as going for a jog, eating healthy, or even taking some time to meditate.

To ensure the goals are attainable, each participant will receive personalised challenges based on their age, gender, and weight.

And if you are successful in completing these challenges, participants can earn up to S$380 in rewards over the two-year duration of this program.

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said:

Even as all of us around the world are dealing with the challenges of COVID-19, we must keep investing in our future. And there is no better investment than in our own personal health. This partnership between Singapore and Apple will enable Singaporeans to lead healthier lives, but equally important, it will contribute valuable insights to improving the health of people all over the world.

Apple's chief operating officer, Jeff Williams, said:

Singapore has one of the world’s leading healthcare systems, and we are thrilled to be partnering with them to incorporate Apple Watch and LumiHealth into their holistic approach to well-being.

For those concerned about security, the programme requires users to opt in and provide consent to share information with LumiHealth.

Only information that is required to provide a personalised experience is collected and all user data is encrypted. This data is ten stored in a highly secure system in Singapore that's fully compliant with data privacy and security laws.

Additionally, none of these data will be sold or used for marketing purposes. Participants can also choose to opt out at any time.

The LumiHealth app was designed specifically for the Apple Watch. Owners of other fitness trackers and smart wearables are encouraged to take part in other Health Promotion Board initiatives like the National Steps Challenge.

The LumiHealth app will be available starting from late October 2020. You can pre-order the app now here.
