Two brands dominated the list of top 10 best-selling smartphones in Q3 2024

Counterpoint Research just released its list of top 10 best-selling phones in Q3 and it's no surprise that Apple and Samsung reigned.

According to Counterpoint Research's Global Handset Model Sales Tracker, Samsung had the biggest presence with five spots while Apple had four and Xiaomi had one. 

Diving further into the data, the Apple iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro took up the first three spots on the list. Rounding up the top five were the Samsung Galaxy A15 4G and A15 5G. 

Counterpoint Research observed that the market share gap between the standard and Pro iPhone models is narrowing, which indicates an increasing preference among consumers for higher-end models. In addition, half of the the total iPhone sales in Q3 were driven by the Pro models which is a first in a third quarter.

Moving beyond the iPhone camp, the Samsung Galaxy S24 managed to keep its spot in the top 10 for the third consecutive quarter. It is also the first time in a third quarter since 2018 that a Galaxy S flagship phone had a spot in the list. 

Samsung's Galaxy A series were more popular due to its wider availability across countries and the focus on bigger customer segments in the entry and mid-level price bands. 

The only phone on the list that wasn't from Apple or Samsung was the Xiaomi Redmi 13C 4G.
