Apple has reportedy hired an experienced communications lead for its augmented reality (AR) projects.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims Apple has hired Meta's communications lead for Reality Labs, Andrea Schubert. According to her LinkedIn profile, Schubert led the AR, XR, Portal and Research comms teams at Reality Labs (Meta's consumer hardware division).

Schubert was also the Oculus product communications lead who helped to launch all Oculus VR headsets from 2016 to 2020. In addition, she led mobile virtual reality (VR) communications and consumer communications across devices.

Schubert's hire is critical as Apple is rumoured to be launching its mixed reality headset in Q4 2022. Gurman reported that the mixed reality headset has both "AR and VR capabilities" and aims to deliver "a mixed reality experience that can handle games in high-quality VR".

The mixed reality headset is expected to be powered by several processors, a fan, ultra high-resolution displays and boast its own App Store. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the mixed reality headset has 3D sensors that are more advanced than those used for Face ID on the iPhone and iPad.

Tipped to be Apple's next major product category, Schubert's vast experience in this field will be criticial in driving positive media coverage, conversations and public perception on the AR/VR devices.
