Apple said to have cut iPhone 14 Plus production

Apple is reportedly lowering production of the iPhone 14 Plus according to sources in the supply chain.

The Information claims Apple informed at least one manufacturer in China to immediately stop production of the iPhone 14 Plus components while its procurement team reassesses the demand for the device. In addition, two downstream suppliers are also lowering their production by 70% and 90% respectively. Despite the poor reception, The Information says Apple intends to release an iPhone 15 Plus next year.

The iPhone 14 Plus did not have a good start. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone 14 Plus pre-orders were worse than the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone SE (2022). The pre-order figures were "significantly lower than expected" according to Kuo.

Bloomberg reported that Apple is dropping plans to increase production of the iPhone 14 models as the anticipated surge in demand did not happen. A recent report by DigiTimes also made a similar claim; the initial sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus were "lower than expected".
