Apple said to be still working on reverse wireless charging for the iPhone
Reverse wireless charging for the Apple iPhone is still being developed according to 9to5Mac's sources.
The sources claim Apple is still working on the reverse wireless charging feature for the iPhone. Apple initially wanted to debut the feature on the iPhone 14 Pro models, but it had engineering delays and did not make it in time for the launch.
A special "wireless power out" firmware is believed to be the core of the reverse wireless charging feature. It is said to manage the charging speeds, heat dissipation and charging efficiency between the iPhone and the other device.
Apple is also rumoured to be working on a new user interface with on-screen animations and a sound effect to guide users on using the feature.
The reverse wireless charging feature is reportedly in the works since 2019. Multiple reports surfaced that year stating that the iPhone 11 would offer reverse wireless charging. Apple's FCC filing for the iPhone 12 in 2020 revealed a hidden, inactive reverse wireless charging feature on the device.
Rumours started again in 2021 with Bloomberg claiming reverse wireless charging was being explored for the iPad Pro. Tipster Max Weinbach shared in his YouTube video that the bigger wireless charging coil and stronger MagSafe magnets on the iPhone 13 could pave the way for reverse wireless charging to be supported on a future iPhone.
