Apple’s iOS 16.1 debuts Clean Energy Charging for reducing your carbon footprint
Apple has a new nifty feature for users who want to use newable energy to charge their iPhones.
In iOS 16.1, Apple included a new toggle called Clean Energy Charging. In its supporting documentation here, the company said how the feature forecasts the times when cleaner energy is produced, and it charges your iPhone only then.
Since Clean Energy Charging requires your location data to work, the feature requires your location data to acquire carbon emission forecasts of your area and local energy grid. Also, if you need a full charge in a pinch, users can temporarily suspend Clean Energy Charging by going to the lock screen and tapping “Charge Now” when the Clean Energy notification pops up.
The feature is toggled on by default, located under Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. It’s also only available in the U.S. for the time being.
In Singapore, Apple was the first company to entirely rely on solar power for its operations here by using local energy provider Sunseap.
