ARM-based Macs could arrive in 2021 according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In his latest research note, Kuo expects several Mac notebooks and desktops with Apple's custom-designed ARM processors to launch in 2021. His investor note earlier this month estimated that ARM-based Macs could arrive as early as Q4 2020.

He added that these ARM processors will significantly improve the competitive advantage of the Mac lineup as Apple does not need to rely on Intel's processor roadmap, reduce processor costs by 40 to 60%, and provide more hardware differentiation for Mac.

Apple is also believed to be introducing USB4 support for Macs in 2022 with Taiwanese integrated circuit designer ASMedia Technology as the exclusive supplier. USB4, which is based on Thunderbolt 3, can deliver data transfer speeds up to 40Gbps and support up to two 4K displays or one 5K display over a single cable.
